Hello! I’m Matt Caulfield, and I’m excited to be the Director at Coach Haus Architecture. With over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, I’ve had the privilege of working on a wide range of projects all over the country—ranging from large-scale residential developments with contract values up to £25 million to more bespoke, intimate residential designs.
My journey started with a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Design Technology from the University of Wales, and since then, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the leading names in the industry, including Taylor Wimpey, Kier, Wates, Seddon, Sanctuary, and Lovell, to name a few.
One of my most memorable projects was Arden Quarter in Stratford-upon-Avon, which was shortlisted in the 2015 Housing Design Awards. My role was Design Lead, overseeing the design of a complex, mixed-use development with both private and affordable housing, as well as an extra care unit. While I’ve gained invaluable technical knowledge from larger-scale schemes, my true passion lies in working closely with individual clients. I love getting to know their unique needs and vision, then tailoring designs that are truly personal, practical, and functional.
What excites me the most is building personal connections with my Clients. By understanding their lifestyle and specific requirements, I create spaces that aren’t just visually appealing but are also perfectly suited to how they live and work. Whether it’s a small extension or bespoke family home, I’m dedicated to delivering high-quality, client-focused solutions that exceed expectations.
At Coach Haus, I focus on clear, collaborative communication throughout every project, ensuring that the design process is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. My technical background allows me to approach each project with a pragmatic, detailed mindset, ensuring that it’s both functional and feasible, while always keeping the client’s vision at the forefront.
Outside of work, I enjoy pottery, gardening, and exploring the stunning Cornish coast with my partner and our dog, Toby. I’m also passionate about travel—one of my most memorable trips was to Chicago, where I had the chance to visit the home and studio of the legendary American Architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. His work continues to inspire me, blending function, form, and the natural environment in ways that resonate deeply with my approach to design.
